aurelia arroyo nieto has been the house manager and chef at poco for over nine years. as residents, we got to be sustained by her nutritious meals each day. being in her presence was a direct influence in this work so before she left for the day, I asked her to see the installation. i was very curious as to what her reaction would be. she asked me if i was a mother and i said no. she then said: ‘eres una chingona,’ and that was just the only opinion i really needed before opening the studio door. ¡gracias, Aure! and gracias to the poco a poco team, our facilitators, fellow residents, and the entire city of Oaxaca for existing and resisting.
